Delphinium Trials

The Delphinium Society Trials

A Delphinium Society Trial is held at Home Farm Plants to assess new plants that will be worth recommending to the Royal Horticultural Society for an Award of Garden Merit (AGM).

Possible new cultivars are assessed twice a year over a number of years by committee members to find superior plants.

Hybridising

Home Farm Plants is one of the last remaining commercial nurseries still breeding cutting raised elatum delphiniums. It is important to continue this tradition in order to improve and keep producing new cultivars.  It is a labour of love as it can take between 5 – 7 years or more before a delphinium is registered.

Over the years we have bred Austin’s Dawn Chorus, Rebecca and, after recognising Regal Splendour at a Delphinium Society show, were delighted to be recognised within its registration.
